Right Kind
This vermiculite is "coarse," the kind you will want if you are practicing the Square Foot Gardening technique as described in Mel Barthalamew's book.

I just mixed up Mel's mix using this and it seems to work fine. After doing the calculations and comparing the volume of this product with other ingredients such as the peat moss, it appears each bag is about 1 cubic foot. Mixing this growing soil mix has been the most expensive part of my raised bed gardening project, but it makes a great growing medium by just looking at it.

So one star off because the stuff is priced a bit on the high side.

When I ordered mine it was eligible for Amazon Prime. After I ordered it, they took it off Prime and only available via 3rd party sellers now :(.

Does the job well
It is hard to find this grade of Vermiculite in stores so I was pleased to find it here. I start seeds indoors early and read in several places that this is the perfect soil addition for the seedlings. I've also added it to my outdoor garden for the first time to get maximum lightness and good moisture retention into the soil. It seems to be doing a great job both in and out as my seeds have germinated faster this year than ever before. So far I'm very pleased with the product and look forward to a productive growing season.
